"Commemoration of the 1963 Palm Sunday March" & "Poetry in the Park"

Celebrate Black History all year. Join us as we commemorate an eventful day in black history, the 1963 Palm Sunday March from St. Paul Methodist to Birmingham City Hall.

Join the community on April 1, 2023, at St. Paul UMC Birmingham, AL. at 10:00 AM. to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Palm Sunday march. St. Paul has partnered with Magic City Poetry Festival. to host this event and to host the annual “Poetry in the Park” event.

The program will begin at 10:00 AM at St. Paul UMC and will include acts of commemoration, music, poetry, etc. There will be a commemorative march from St. Paul to Kelly Ingram Park at the site of the “Three Kneeling Ministers.” On that day, there will also be poetry reading at historic sites with conclusion at St. Paul UMC with more poetry and music from the Scrollworks Music School students.

This will be followed by jazz and a variety of music entertainers, family fun and food. Events of the day will end about 5 PM.
